Never Too Late

December 2006

I started to write a business-focused letter this month, but somehow could not get much energy around that.  It feels more like a time to reflect on what the past year has brought me.  Today, I’d rather write about what is on my heart than just in my head.

The first thing I want to share with you is how excited I am about our work together.  A number of terrific new clients have shown up this year, and I’m also blessed with long-term relationships with many of you.  We have plenty of intriguing challenges to work on that stimulate my thinking.  That said, I’ve endeavored to coach more from my intuition, and listen for my wisdom, and yours, in our coaching sessions.  I feel we are partners in our coaching walk, and that we are exploring new ground together each week.

George Eliot wrote “It is never too late to be what you might have been.”  As your coach, I hold a vision of the unique and wondrous “you” that you are becoming.  I see many of your strengths (and yes, your weaknesses) and try to be a mirror to allow you to see them fully in yourself.  You inspire me with your courageous commitment to be an integrated, creative, and whole person.  In our work, I always encourage you to discover, articulate, and then bring forward your own vision of who you are becoming.  After all, it is never too late.

In addition to being very grateful for your presence in my life, I am giving thanks for my own personal and professional journey this past year.  I’m changing the way I think about my coaching, and you have been gracious in allowing me to share that with you in the context of our work.  I’m taking more risks, and speaking out more.  My desire is to let go of my ego, and just coach from a place that is at once highly trained and highly attuned.  That can be scary at times, and I appreciate your trust in me as I grow and learn.

I hope that this month you will set aside time to consider how far you have come this year, both professionally and personally, towards being who you long to be.  I see that person so clearly, and I hope you do as well.
